Today we decided to tough the gross and rainy weather to visit Versailles since out metro passes only work to get us out of Paris for free on the weekends. Although the rain held off it was pretty cold. Our sketchy fake art student cards got us into the museum for free but nobody warned us that once in the castle you have to pay another 9 Euro to enter the gardens. We decided that we would come back another day when it was sunny and warm and we could fully appreciate them. The inside of the palace didn't disappoint however.
There was so much art and furniture and so many beautiful statues inside. I can't even imagine living there. It's everything that Fontainebleu wasn't. The only thing that I hated about Versailles was that anywhere you went was full of tourists. It was so annoying. People would walk into a room and stare and look at it in the front for like twenty minutes so everything was so clogged up and in order to get a picture of anything you had to lift your camera so far above your head that you just hoped it was a good picture. Almost every picture I took was littered with tourists. I tried to capture exactly how many there were in one room and at the last second some girl stuck her head right in front of my camera. A perfect example of how stupid tourists are. There were also tons of old mirrors which meant lots of selfies were taken in the most ornate and expensive mirrors I'd ever seen. I also learned that old French people were super weird. All of the statues and paintings were outrageous. Men and women wearing things and posing in certain ways that were a testament to how little honest feedback they received from their peers.
After we decided we were done with Versailles we headed back to the train station and decided to stop at French McDonalds to check out whether it was any good. The burger and fries that I had was pretty much the same as in America and we had French MacArrons which were HORRIBLE. Like I almost gagged on a couple. I learned a great lesson today about how some things are really hard to make well when they're cheap.
For dinner we made fajitas and rice with some guacamole which turned out very very good considering that I accidentally bought turkey breast and all of the ingredients were french replacements for american ingredients. Since its so cold and rainy and we haven't gotten much sleep since we arrived I think tonight ends with a movie and a good night's sleep.
