Today we went to the chateau (castle, shat-oh) Chenonceau (shen-on-so) which was pretty beautiful. It was built for Diana something and Catherine de Medicis and was surrounded by gorgeous gardens. My favorite part of this castle was that it was surrounded by a river which made it look so much more regal and beautiful. We spent a couple of hours touring the castle and gardens and taking TONS of pictures. One of the gardens was a maze which was awesome and we filmed a little video in it which got us some international fans (all older French men).
After checking out the awesome castle we had an amazing three course lunch which consisted of a canteloupe sorbet, steak and potatoes, and a strawberry vanilla ice cream cake with cafe to end. The whole meal was amazing (and paid for already from my tuition money!). After lunch we got back on the bus and drove to Amboise which is a little village that Da Vinci spent his last years in. It's a beautiful little city that epitomizes the French countryside. We got to see Da vinci's house and go wine tasting for a little bit. We also happened to go on a day when they had some sort of celebration which meant lots of music and people in the creepiest masks and costumes you could imagine. I decided that I wanted to have one of said masks so we searched for the ones that they were handing out. Once we got them and laughed about how creepy we looked somebody told us that you could get into the castle for free if you had on a mask which meant saving 9 Euro each. Once we got in the castle there was a whole celebration with dancing and music and the same weird masked people (we got a picture with some). We then went inside the castle where we got shushed at for being too loud and too American and when we tried to sneak out we had a bad language barrier situation with the lady at the entrance. She told me that "we could visit the museum or we could enjoy the castle" to which I replied "What?" and she said "What?" and proceeded to inform me that we could visit the castle but we couldn't leave and more confusing statements so we decided to explore the whole castle and find a different exit. Eventually we did and we left Amboise.
Tonight we have a very fancy dinner at some restaurant inside a cave but I don't know when we will be back so I am writing this post now. If we take any good pictures I might update the blog and add pictures otherwise just assume it was awesome and I looked stunning.
