So I'm assuming that most people reading this know me fairly well (although some IP addresses in Switzerland and Argentina are iffy) so you know that scary movies and haunted houses aren't really my scene. For this reason take my opinion on this with a little grain of salt but if you're in Paris for a limited amount of time you probably shouldn't see the catacombs. The line itself wasn't too long, we probably waited for thirty minutes or so and we were able to get in for free with our Student Cards. Once you get in though you go down these narrow and steep winding stairs FOREVER until you're so far underground that you're sure this is the beginning of a Saw movie and you just voluntarily walked down to your own demise.
Once you're down there you walk for like fifteen minutes through dark concrete hallways which sometimes drip which is super nasty and there are little dungeon gates every so often which doesn't make sense.
Before you enter the catacomb there is a little sign that says "Arrete! C'est ici l'empire de la mort." which means "Stop! This here is the empire of the dead." This is advice that should be heeded. First of all, creepy signs like this are all though out the tunnels. Also you're actually about to walk through dead bodies. A lot of dead bodies!!!
It's obviously impossible to tell from the pictures because I couldn't take ten million pictures but the creepy arrangement of bones and skulls continue for like twenty minutes. I think there's probably millions of dead people remains in that cave dungeon. The bones of people who used to walk and talk and eat and laugh at jokes and have babies. And I'm surrounded by them. It was so disgusting and while I appreciated the sheer quantity and that this was definitely a once in a lifetime sight, I felt so queasy by the end of it.
Moral of the story, it was interesting to see but I will definitely never go back. Even if I was on the Bachelor and there was a date there. Well maybe then it would depend on the bachelor. But I don't think I would.
